Ant Control: Extermination and Removal

Ants on a leaf

New York City pest control services are your last line of defense against an invasion of ants when it comes to getting rid of ants. New York’s Department of Health and Environmental Protection recommends that all persons wishing to get rid of ants, insects, rodents, and similar pests, contact a professional pest control service for assistance. This is because New York City is surrounded by large concentrations of ants and other insects. Even one or two ants living in your home can cause damage, sometimes without you being aware of it. To keep ants and other insects out of your home, you need to hire the services of a professional pest control company.

Ants are sociable insects that survive by living in colonies. While there is no proof that ants have ever died out, they are no longer the most popular insect in the United States, probably because they tend to eat toxic waste. Therefore, ant control methods should always consist of killing off the entire colony rather than just spraying an ant product directly at the problem area. Just spraying an ant pesticide, especially a liquid ant repellent, will only kill some of the ants in your home, and dispersing the colony will not help.

Ant Control

There are three common types of ant control in use today; fogger, bomb, and traps. The most common form of bomb ants control is the baiting system, which is placed underneath and around the home’s foundation. This baited system will kill the ants on contact but will not harm the queen or the larvae. However, if a substantial number of ants have made their way into your home, especially if there is a problem with the structural integrity of the foundation, the bomb system may be unable to kill all the colony, including the queens, effectively.

Liquid Detergent Forage

Another commonly used form of ant control is the liquid detergent forage. This product is usually applied for a two-week period, which is enough time to kill the entire colony and eliminate all potential threats to life outdoors. For best results, this product should be applied before spring, when ants are less active and most forage in the open. As ants make their way toward the garden’s food sources, the detergent forage becomes less effective. However, this is still an excellent product if you experience an ant problem where there is no food or water source outside.

Ants, primarily, are a pest problem that has been affecting homeowners for many years. As a result, there are several types of products on the market, including pesticides, which are sometimes necessary to control ant problems. However, some people are allergic to these chemicals, and in that case, there are also termites treatment products available on the market. It is important to understand that there is a difference between termite treatments and ant control. The treatments are specifically intended to kill the ants, while the ant control techniques address soil erosion and food source loss’s underlying problems.

Carpenter ants, black ants, and spotted ants all fall under the broader umbrella of termites called Formica. While most of the ant control products available target the Formica colony, one must also be careful of the many so-called pesticides and pesticides that are actually derived from Carpenter ants and other insects. While they can be effective, some of these pesticides, such as acaricides, can be dangerous to people and pets and even to the environment. If you suspect that you have an ant or termite problem, consulting your local hardware store or your trusted gardening professional will help determine the appropriate course of action for you.
